Vila Viçosa Municipality
Vila Viçosa municipality is close to Elvas, Borba, Alandroal and Redondo municipalities, with population density of 45,49 inhabitants by km2 and occupying an area of 195 km2. As well as other municipalities is placed in an area known by “Marble Area”.
In terms of population, this municipality has registered a decrease in the 1991-2001 decade, with an increase 2.2% only in Conceição parish. Resident Population registered 8871 effective in 2001.
Despite the number of old people being superior than young people, ageing is not very significant. The municipality enhances by the number of active population still living there, according to Ageing Rates this is the second municipality with lower numbers (134,23%).
In terms of active population education degrees, the most part has Primary Education. However there is a significant number of individuals in active age with Secondary and Superior Education.
Ornamental Stones sector in its extractive and transforming components, such as associated industries, has high impact in the Municipality economy. The sector is fundamental concerning Vila Viçosa economic development, except for olive oil and cereal production.
