Mourão Municipality occupies a 277,7 Km² area, corresponding to 3,7% of Évora district, has 3.230 inhabitants, that represent 1,9% of the district resident population. 3  parishes constitute the municipality. Economic activity is centred in tertiary and secondary sectors, employing around 89% of active population.

This municipality is placed in the Alentejo region known as  Margem Esquerda - Left Shore(of Guadiana river) and has 3 parishes: Mourão, Granja and Luz.

Total population is 3273 inhabitants (Mourão 1974; Granja 905; Luz 394), and is 56 Km 02 Km far from Lisbon.

Mourão has a total area of 288,72 Km2. This area is influenced by other municipalities such as: Moura, Reguengos de Monsaraz, Barrancos and others such as Spanish Estremadura Vila Nueva del Fresno).
