Placed in Évora's District North Area, Arraiolos Municipality has a population density of 11,16 inhabitants by km2, with a total area of 544,1 km2.

This municipality suffered a population decrease between 1991/2001 decade, around 7.2%. This decrease was higher in men (-7.8%) than in women(-6.6%). According to Census, in 2001, was registered an effective population of 7616 people, of which 48.31% is represented by male sex and 51.69% by female.

Analysing the municipality's resident population in 2001, we observe that only 13.1% corresponds to young people. This reduced number leads to an aged population in the basis. The same way, the population is aged in the top, because old people represented in 2001, 25.88% of the total population number in the municipality. Ageing index is of 197,49%, reflecting the population age.

In what concerns active population scholar degrees, we conclude that there is a higher presence of levels inferior to secondary school, with predominance of primary school and major preponderance of female sex. On the other hand, female sex enhances regarding superior education, following the country's tendency. However, in 2001, only 7.94% of active population reached superior education, 64.50% are women.

Most part of employed population is male, revealing major expression in every activity sectors, except in services sector were women occupy 57.42%. In traditionally male sectors such as construction and industry, men represent respectively, 95.39% e 60.48% of employed population. In agriculture male sex has also more expression.
